Rally to change Ervay St. to Harvey Milk St. Sent Robert Jeffress and the 1st Baptist Dallas church a message.

We are having a rally to change Ervay to Harvey Milk St. This is the street which runs past the infamous First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas where W.A. Criswell was pastor.

At the group page is a lot of links to historical materials pdfs which you can download and articles which you can read telling about W.A. Criswell and Robert Jeffress.

Henry Ervay for whom the street was named was part of the invasion of Nicaragua to make it a slave state, was a Confederate officer, and later played a key role in re-establishing white supremacy in Dallas when he was part of the effort to end the multi-racial democracy of Reconstruction.

This is a link to a page with background info on Ervay.

Dallas City Council member Adam Bazaldua wants to renamee R.L. Thornton Freeway. / Importance of Street names discussed. Dallas Observer article.

The article is online here:

The issues about renaming streets is mentioned and I am quoted a fair amount.

I had shared with Jacob Vaughn my papers on street names such as the fights over street names, the review of the municipal code on street names, my critique of it, my paper on the metaphysical landscape, etc.

You can read these papers and papers on why renaming streets is important at these links.

This is history over the renaming streets in Dallas.

This link is to the papers on the Metaphysical landscape and stigmatized property and Landscape reparations

Botham Jean Memorial Committee introduces the concept of Landscape Reparations into public discussion via Dallas Observer article.

Often the first thing to be done is to get people thinking in new ways and that involves often new concepts and that involves new terms to get people thinking about new ideas.

The new terms and new concept is "landscape reparations."

It is mentioned in this article.

I have a web page on Landscape Reparations with articles and pod casts.

At this page I have links to a page on name changes in South Africa.

The Botham Jean Committee had a rally and the terms "landscape reparations" were used in the speeches and additonally the fact that the landscape didn't have Africaness was mentioned. So the concept is now out  there, and I hope it goes national. I haven't put the speeches online. I hope to get that done at some point. Look to this blog to see the updated info.

The Friendship West Baptist Church had a speaker and the speaker used the term and it was used in their Zoom broadcast. So the concept is out there. I look forward to it continuing to spread and to reach a broader audience, hopefully nationally.
